MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is proud to announce that its 2025 nursing graduates have achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). The national first-time pass rate to date for this year is 88.9% per the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). This exceptional accomplishment reflects the academic excellence of MVNU’s nursing program and the unwavering dedication of its students and faculty.

The NCLEX is a rigorous, nationally standardized exam required for licensure as a registered nurse in the United States. A perfect pass rate demonstrates not only the strength of MVNU’s curriculum but also the preparedness and professionalism of its graduates.

“This is an impressive achievement. The nursing program at Mount Vernon Nazarene University works hard to prepare students for practice through various innovative means and measures,” said Dr. Debra Garee, Chair of the Division of Life and Health Sciences. “The 100 percent pass rate reflects the students hard work, knowledge, and preparedness. Students are prepared through rigorous coursework, real life simulations in the state-of-the-art simulation lab, and hands on clinical experiences. Through evidenced-based practice, the nursing program continually works to create innovative way to teach students.

“This year’s graduating seniors worked hard and stayed engaged throughout their studies. We couldn’t be prouder of them! It’s always such an honor to know that these students are now Registered Nurses, living out their callings and serving in the field of nursing.”

This milestone places MVNU’s nursing program among the top-performing programs in the region and reinforces the University’s commitment to producing competent, compassionate, and faith-driven healthcare professionals.

“We had 15 graduates this year with a 100 percent first time past rate,’ said Dr. Karla Adu, Nursing Program Director, noting the achievement.

According to Dr. Adu and Dr. Garee, students start preparing for NCLEX their final semester, and they are assigned a faculty member as their NCLEX coach — usually their advisor. Emphasis is placed on transitioning to practice and support in passing the exam. Weekly coaching sessions are held with students until they pass and are ready to practice.

“All our graduating seniors had job offers before graduation. Many received job offers from their senior clinical placement,” added Dr. Garee.

Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, MVNU’s nursing program continues to attract students nationwide who seek a transformative education rooted in purpose, service, and faith.

“The mission of the nursing program is to educate professional nurse leaders to model Christ by impacting local and global healthcare needs through the ministry of nursing,” said Dr. Garee. “NCLEX pass rates support the quality of the program. This provides evidence of the rigorous curriculum and devoted faculty who continue to work with students and mentor them throughout the program and after graduation as they prepare to take the licensure exam.”
